Should you supplement with a vitamin as part of your wellness routine?
Have you considered a vitamin supplement as part of your wellness routine and self care journey?
In today’s blog post we are going to explore who may benefit from taking a vitamin, and if it is the right fit for you- which vitamin is the best fit for you and your needs.
This blog post is proudly sponsored by New Chapter. I’m incredibly honored to be working with New Chapter to share education and information on their supplements, including their Perfect Prenatal Multivitamin and Perfect Postnatal Multivitamin.
I’ll be honest- I have been waiting to write this blog post for a long time, because I’ve been experimenting and researching various supplement companies to make sure I could 100% stand behind the supplement. I know as a registered dietitian, women’s health educator and new mom, you trust my opinion and advice, and I take that very, very seriously. I’ve literally been experimenting with vitamins for the past two years to write this blog post, and I’m happy to say I’ve finally landed on a company I could support completely!
What makes New Chapter stand apart from the rest?
New Chapter products and vitamins are created with the power of whole foods and herbs. Each New Chapter product is carefully designed and prepared, formulated with proven science and nutrition that actually works.
Many of their products, like the vitamins we will be chatting about today, are created using well-thought out processes to unlock the nutrients. One of these processes is fermentation, which allows the body to better absorb and digest the nutrients within the supplement.
New Chapter products are made with consciously chosen and responsibly sourced ingredients. They also offer non-GMO and organic, ensuring we take care of the planet while we take care of ourselves.
New Chapter’s philosophy and values are spot on with ours here at VM and Nourishing Women Podcast. This is all about you knowing your body best and using supplements as part of your overall self care journey as a way to live your life to the fullest.
Many of you who follow along here on VM are here to learn about intuitive eating and recovery from disordered eating and orthorexia+*. One of the reasons I believe a multivitamin can be a beneficial option is if you are working to gain weight or resume your period, as it is likely your body is not getting all the nutrients it needs. While eating more and exercising less is necessary, a multivitamin may be a good option to discuss with your health care provider to support your micronutrient needs. Plus, this can take the pressure off nutrition while you are focusing on your intuitive eating journey, as we often ask that nutrition is put on the backburner until you can come back to it in a more fluid, less rigid way. Finally, a multivitamin can be an option for those on oral contraceptives as a way to replenish nutrient stores that are depleted from taking the pill.
As with all of New Chapter’s vitamins their daily multivitamin is fermented for better absorption, which helps you maximize your nutrient intake. This multivitamin is actually the #1 selling fermented multivitamin, how cool is that?!
If you are currently trying to conceive or planning to conceive soon, I believe it is a great idea to take a prenatal vitamin during this time frame so you are already taking one daily when conception does occur. I also recommend to my clients who are using Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) for birth control (or to conceive) to go ahead and take a prenatal vitamin as well.
If you are a mama-to-be already, you may want to consider switching to New Chapter’s Perfect Prenatal Vitamin, their new and improved formula contains a clinical dose of ginger to support reducing nausea during pregnancy* (I wish I would have known of this prenatal when I was in my first trimester, morning sickness was the worst!).
Their prenatal vitamin is also fermented for better absorption with beneficial probiotics and whole foods, making it easier to digest and gentle on the stomach, something that is quite hard to find in the world of prenatal vitamins! Plus it contains all the key nutrients your body needs for a growing baby, including methylfolate- which is the active form of folate I personally always recommend to my clients when they are looking for a prenatal.
New Chapter also has a postnatal vitamin, which is what I am personally taking now. It is formulated specifically for new moms and our needs, to help us replenish nutrient stores from having a baby. This means it contains key nutrients like iodine, vitamin D, as well as fermented B vitamins to support energy needs*. They even added vital nutrients for breastfeeding like vitamin B6, iodine and vitamin D.
One of my favorite features of Perfect Postnatal vitamin is that it contains organic botanicals that have been used traditionally for lactation, like oats, kelp, chamomile and turmeric. This postnatal vitamin also has fermented iron which is great for those of us, like myself, in the postpartum phase because this is an important nutrient to replenish after birth as it can affect so much, including your energy and mood.
I hope this blog post helps clear the air on multivitamins, prenatal vitamins and even postnatal vitamins, too. Personally, I had been taking a prenatal vitamin in my postpartum recovery simply because I didn’t even know a postnatal vitamin was an option for me to take, that is until I discovered New Chapter!
This is one of the many things I love about New Chapter, they have vitamins and supplements that cover all the options we as women need. At the end of the day, you know your body best. But I hope today’s blog post gives you insight to when it may be beneficial for you to consider a multivitamin, prenatal vitamin or postnatal vitamin.
You can purchase New Chapter vitamins and supplements on New Chapter’s website, or at Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores.
